What are Hallucinogens?

Hallucinogens are drugs that change a person's perception of reality. When people take hallucinogens, they experience things that are not real such as sights, sounds, and different sensations. The main hallucinogen we will be covering is psilocybin, which is found in psychedelic mushrooms.

Different Types of Hallucinogens:

Psilocybin:a hallucinogenic chemical found in mushrooms. a.k.a. shrooms
MDMA: a psychedelic drug a.k.a. ecstasy
LSD: lysergic acid a.k.a acid
PCP: a pain relieving drug a.k.a angel dust
Peyote: the tip of a cactus plant
Mescaline: naturally found in the peyote

Effects on the Brain:

Hallucinogens work in the spine and the brain by stopping the communication between nerve cells and seratonin. Seratonin is the chemical that controls your sensory perception. Therefore, when the signals between the seratonin and the brain are interrupted, a person trips out and experiences things that are unreal.
